Description

Based on studies carried out from life, the French painter imagined an ideal view, inspired by one of the most famous villas in Frascati. This is Villa Ruffinella, also known as Villa Tuscolana, which was ceded by Pope Pius VII in 1804 to Luciano Bonaparte.

Chauvin tackled the same subject in two other similar views, one privately owned and another at the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen, which served as a comparison for Valter Curzi, who recently studied the painting of Palazzo Butera, proposing a new interpretation.
