LEWIS NOCKALLS COTTINGHAM (1787-1847)

Lewis Nockalls Cottingham was a forerunner in the rediscovery of Gothic architecture, committed to the restoration and preservation of English monuments. He had also founded a museum of medieval art, at his home on Waterloo Road in London, where he had assembled fragments from demolished medieval buildings and casts of objects he believed to be important for study purposes.
