IN DETAIL
Description
Vase bases resembling capitals, cornice corbels from the piano nobile, fountain elements, fragments of feet, bas-reliefs, fantastical or simply domestic animals, even a memorial stone probably from a Punic tophet… these and other pieces recovered from the historic mosaic of Palazzo Butera were entrusted to Anne and Patrick Poirier during the restoration years. The French artists thus imagined a sculpture garden for the entrance courtyard, in the tradition of Bomarzo, Caprarola, or Pratolino—just to mention a few places dear to the couple. In the watercolors created in 2018, there is a clear sense of lush vegetation, which creates the ideal spatial setting for the fragments, like a new home created to welcome them.
