The ceiling fresco of this room was destroyed in 1922 to make way for a flat. David Tremlett’s 2020 wall drawing therefore had to fill a substantial void.

The first vases to see in the display case are by the Austrian manufactory Loetz (1880 circa).

 

Pugin’s table has medieval architecture to thank for its austere, structural form and holds the last two Treated Skulls by Phillips.

 

In Gilbert & George’s Hero (1980), the violence of war is denounced by darkening the form of this World War I statue and making the soldier represented totally anonymous.
